Marching Band Showcase returns Oct. 22
On Tuesday, October 22, all four marching bands will once again perform their competition shows free to the public at Grove City High School's Leasure Field.
Hosted by the South-Western City School District (SWCSD) Board of Education, this event seeks to showcase the exemplary instrumental music programs across the District and provide each band the opportunity to fine tune their competition shows prior to OMEA State Finals.
In between competition shows, guests will learn about the many adjudicated areas band programs are judgsed in such as percussion, intonation, visual effect and more.
About the Venue
From time-to-time, the district fields inquiries as to what the advantages are to hosting at GCHS as opposed to rotating sites. Specifically, the GCHS venue affords band students and programs....
One last opportunity to perform on turf: the opportunity to perform on turf at this late stage in the season allows us to effectively evaluate student drill charts, formations, and visuals on the same performing surface they will encounter at OMEA State Finals in the weekends following the event. This consistency in the performance environment (turf) will undoubtedly enhance our preparations for the finals in each band’s pursuit of the superior rating they will work to attain by season’s end.
Preserves Uniform Cleanliness before OMEA State Finals: performing on turf comes with significant financial and time incentives for each band as it enables us to showcase our talents on a clean surface, eliminating the need for last-minute dry cleaning of band uniforms at a high cost for each school before OMEA State Finals. By the end of October, each non-turf field in the district has seen 20 or more home athletic contests on it
Maxmizes Space for our Guests and Community: With approximately 5,000 home side seats for our community, parents, and students, Leisure Field is the best positioned venue across the district to accommodate stakeholders to see all four marching band shows from the home side; whereas, viewing angles at other stadiums do not have the room for viewing without having to have visitors watch from the rear of the show on the away side.
We hope to see you there!
